Matt Deitke, a 24-year-old AI researcher, initially turned down an offer from Meta Platforms that was reportedly worth $125 million.
At the time, Deitke was focused on his own startup, Vercept, which specializes in building autonomous AI agents.
His decision to initially reject such a significant offer highlights the intense competition for top AI talent in the industry.
However, the story took a dramatic turn when Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg personally intervened.
Following a meeting between the two, Meta presented a revised offer, doubling the compensation to an estimated $250 million.
This unprecedented package ultimately convinced Deitke to join Meta’s Superintelligence Lab, where he now works on multimodal AI systems.
