Here are 5 blogging tips for beginners:

Tip #1 – Create titles that grab attention and get clicked

The benefits of crafting attention grabbing titles is more traffic, better click through rates and more engagement.

Here are a few tips to help you write attention grabbing titles:

-Spark curiosity
Example – “Don’t make these common mistakes in your next presentation!”

-Use odd numbers
Example – “17 Dog Training Tips for First Time Pet Owners”

-Talk about benefits, not features
Example – “Discover the Secret to Toned Abs”

Here is an awesome tool to create attention grabbing titles!

Here are a few blog post title formulas guaranteed to maximize clicks:

1 – The “how to” title

This title formula is perfect for when you are teaching your audience how to do something or doing a tutorial.

Examples:

  • How to Learn Day Trading in 24 Hours or Less
  • How to Get 6-Pack Abs (The Facts)
  • How to Train a Dog in 6 Simple Steps

2 – The “ultimate guide” title

The ultimate guide title formula is obviously perfect for when you publish ultimate guides.

Writing ultimate guides about certain topics is a great way to drive tons of traffic to your blog.

Examples:

  • The Ultimate Guide to Search Engine Optimization
  • The Ultimate Guide to Starting a New Career in 2024
  • The Ultimate Guide to Gettting Your Ex Back

3 – The “versus” title

The versus title formula is great for when you are doing product reviews.

Examples:

  • Playstation 5 vs. Xbox Series S
  • ClickFunnels vs. LeadPages: Which One Should You Use?
  • Nutrisystem vs. WeightWatchers: Which Diet Program is Better?

4 – The “devils advocate” title

This is where you go against a commonly held belief in your niche. Doing this will pique your reader’s curiosity and get them to click your title.

Examples:

  • Why Email is Far From Being Dead
  • Why You Should Never Follow Your Passion When Starting a Business (Do This Instead)
  • This Type of Diet is Literally Killing You (Here’s Why)

Tip #2 – Install WordPress

A big mistake I made when I started blogging over a decade ago was using a free blogging platform called Blogger.com.

It’s not worth blogging on a free blogging platform like Blogger.com or Medium.com.

They can shutdown your blog if you violate any of their rules or policies.

Get yourself a self-hosted WordPress blog.

With a self-hosted WordPress blog you have control over the server and have the freedom to do what you want with your blog.

Tip #3 – Read every day

To really become an expert in your niche and stay up to date on the latest trends you need to read daily.

Consuming content related to your niche also makes it easier to come up with ideas when it’s time to publish a blog post.

The more you read the easier it will be to create content!

Tip #4 – Place a lead magnet on your blog so you can generate leads

At the very least you should have an optin form on your blog’s right sidebar promoting some sort of lead magnet.

A lead magnet is a valuable resource you offer someone so they give up their email address and subscribe to your email list.

That resource could be an ebook, cheat sheet or software tool.

The image above is a lead magnet I use to generate leads from my blog.

Another great place to promote your leads magnets is inside your blog posts.

I create all my optin forms with a service called AWeber.

Another thing you can experiment with is adding a popup on your blog promoting some sort of lead magnet.

OptinMonster is a great tool to create popups with.

Tip#5 – Network with other bloggers in your niche

Realtors network with others realtors. Engineers network with other engineers. Entrepreneurs network with other entrepreneurs.

You get the point. No matter what kind of business you are in it’s extremely important to network.

Networking with other bloggers in your niche can open up opportunities and is a great way to get new ideas.
